H2O on the Go
Providing Environmental Education to Youth and Educators
H2O on the Go is a program launched by The Groundwater Foundation during the spring of 2005. Through the generous support of our funders, Groundwater Foundation staff are able to fill the critical need for environmental education in non-formal educational venues, such as summer camps and after school programs.
The H2O on the Go Workshop is designed to build confident environmental educators who are prepared to turn written activities into fun and interactive lessons. Contact us to find out more about the H2O on the Go workshop and how to bring a workshop to your area.
Financial support for H2O on the Go is provided by: Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, Teledyne Isco, Inc., Cooper Foundation, and Rogers Foundation
Activities included by the H2O on the Go program are entertaining and hands-on with a focus on water and its important role in the environment. Examples of curriculum include:
A Drop in the Bucket: by estimating, measuring, and calculating the percent of available fresh water on earth, students understand that water is a limited resource to be conserved
Color Me a Watershed: through interpretation of maps and various handouts, students learn why watersheds are important habitats and observe how human development can affect the quality of a watershed
Edible Earth Parfaits: enjoy learning the basics of groundwater science by building your very own edible aquifer model with yummy treats like ice cream, sprinkles, syrup and soda pop
From Trash to Terrific: students will learn how paper is made, the importance of water in the process, and recycle paper to make their own new paper
Nature’s Filter: compete as teams to construct the most efficient filtration model while discovering the ability of wetland soils to filter pollutants out of contaminated water
Pollution Prevention: students build miniature models to demonstrate how groundwater becomes polluted both naturally and by man, discuss how this pollution can be cleaned up, and better yet—prevented
River Adoption: gain respect for the environment as a habitat and understand the impact humans have on the environment by testing and monitoring a nearby stream
Water Cycle Jewelry: water is constantly on the move through the hydrologic cycle, learn the different stages of the water cycle while creating your own bracelet or necklace
