This Science Olympiad event is designed to increase middle school students' understanding of groundwater concepts. Look for Awesome Aquifers in the event rotation. Most recently this event was held at the 2012 National tournament at the University of Central Florida. Each of the two students from the winning Awesome Aquifers team, from Marie Murphy Middle School in Wilmette, IL, received a $1,000 scholarship to the college of their choice, redeemable upon graduation from high school. Thank you to the 2012 scholarships sponsors, Senninger Irrigation and Rain Bird.
A new trial event for Science Olympiad. The event will challenge students, through investigation and computer modeling, to identify potential groundwater management solutions to help meet the water demands of a growing society. The event was piloted at the Nebraska State Tournament in April 2013.
