Designation Celebration Ceremony
The National Designation Celebration Ceremony is held each year in connection with the Groundwater Foundation Conference. Groundwater Guardian team representatives from across the country gather to celebrate their groundwater protection accomplishments. The celebration officially designates and recognizes Groundwater Guardian Communities, Affiliates, Green Sites, and National Partners.
The Celebration begins with the National Designation Ceremony. Each Groundwater Guardian team present is individually recognized and its activities highlighted. The Ceremony includes musical slide shows that showcase the variety of groundwater education and protection activities implemented by Groundwater Guardians during the year.
The Ceremony is followed by a reception and banquet. The banquet features the presentation of the Phil Peters Service Award, which recognizes distinguished service on the Groundwater Guardian Council. The award is named after Phillip D. Peters, former executive director of the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission and member of the Groundwater Guardian Management Team. Phil was presented with the first Phil Peters Service Award on February 5, 1999.
