Community Profile:
The Moodna Creek watershed drains the eastern quarter of Orange County. A sand and gravel aquifer along the creek and its main tributary, Woodbury Creek, provide water to the nearby communities of Washingtonville, Cornwall, and Woodbury. The bedrock aquifers serve the Towns of Blooming Grove, Hamptonburgh, New Windsor, and Woodbury. The watershed is under intense growth pressure, and preservation of water quality in the creek is a major concern. The Moodna Watershed Coalition is a confederation of citizens and officials from local and state agencies who recognize the need to protect the watershed. The coalition uses Groundwater Guardian to education the public about the threats to the watershed, as well as to assist in securing funding for studies and protective measures.
