Community Profile:
Aultman's Run Watershed is home to a population of 1,520, all of whom receive their drinking water from local groundwater supplies. Current groundwater-related concerns for the area include AMD contamination from abandoned mines, causing both quantity and quality issues. The area's water quality is also threatened by numerous illegal garbage dumps. The Aultman's Run Watershed team uses the Groundwater Guardian program to increase its visibility in its efforts to educate the residents of the watershed and surrounding area.
Result Oriented Activities:
- Completed a constructed wetland at the outflow from a borehole from an old coal mine. The wetland will naturally treat the contaminated water flowing from the mine into a nearby stream.
- Held a watershed-wide trash clean up, collecting approximately 6 tons of trash from watershed roads and an illegal dump site.
