Community Profile:
Shrewsbury Borough, with a population of 4,500, has all of its drinking water supplied by groundwater. It is currently exploring an additional water source and negotiating with a property owner for land acquistion. Shrewsbury Borough uses Groundwater Guardian to raise awareness through educational materials and networking.
Result Oriented Activities:
- Put together a slide presentation for the public comparing 2008 aerial photos to 2001 photos and noted differences over the time period for wellhead protection efforts.
- Gave groundwater presentation to 20 members of local Boy Scout Troop. A groundwater simulator was used, demonstrating the importance of groundwater protection and conservation.
- Continued work to close every private, abandoned well to prevent contamination.
