Community Profile:

Telford's 8,000 residents receive all of their drinking water from local groundwater supplies. Several of the Authority's wells have experienced contamination from volatile organic compounds, causing the Authority to take a proactive stand to prevent future problems. There are also concerns about the potential impacts of a nearby quarry and the geography of the area, which has caused groundwater quantity problems in the past. Telford uses the Groundwater Guardian program for public education and community input as well as land use and groundwater protection.

Result Oriented Activities:

• Continued participation in a local speakers bureau providing speakers on water, sewer and wellhead protection issues. The bureau has been active since 1995 and has impacted over 10,000 citizens and meeting/conference attendees.
• Continued to update map of local inventory of potential contaminant sources.
