Pharmaceutical and Personal Care Products in Drinking Water Supplies Seminar
The Groundwater Foundation’s goal in this project is to empower people through education and prevention ideas to help communities protect their drinking water from pharmaceutical and personal care product (PPCP) contamination through a series of seminars held in Nebraska during 2007.
PPCPs in Drinking Water: Potential Risks & Best Practices Seminars
Pharmaceuticals and personal care products are a diverse group of chemicals including all human and veterinary drugs, dietary supplements, and other consumer products. They are introduced into the environment in a variety of ways. One way is through wastewater treatment systems, which generally do not treat for these products. As a result, pharmaceuticals and personal care products that are flushed may enter our drinking water supplies.
If you missed a seminar and want to learn more about this important issue, or are interested in finding out how to host a Pharmaceuticals and personal care products collection event in your community, visit About PPCPs.
Funding for this project was provided by the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality and the Environmental Fines Fund from the Nebraska Attorney General.
