LEAP Additional Resources
Action Ideas
- Organize a pick up litter event in your neighborhood, on your school grounds, or at a nearby park. Helpful resources include Keep America Beautiful, Adopt-A-Stream Program, or a local group from your community such as Keep Nebraska Beautiful.
- Stencil the storm drains in your neighborhood or community. Did you know that whatever is put down the storm drains ends up in the lake and streams where you go fishing, swimming and boating? Find detailed instructions on how to implement storm drain stenciling in your community here.
- Organize a ride your bike, walk, rollerblade or skateboard to school, work, church, etc. week.
- Research and identify “green” cleaning products. Many of the best products are homemade. Do your research in the library or on the internet in addition to checking what is available in stores. Market these products for use in your school and at home. Collect data and evaluate how many homes have switched to “green” cleaning products.
- Join or start a water/environmental/natural resource club, like World Water Monitoring Day.
- Install a rain garden.
- Install rain barrels.
- Organize a Test Your Well event (or see the Good Water, Good Health, Good Choices brochure in the LEAP Manual's Appendix).
- Review the Top Ways to Protect and Conserve Groundwater (in the Helpful Hints and Other Resources Section of the LEAP Manual) and decide what actions you can promote and implement in your community.
- Work with your local community and water utilities to develop a Wellhead Protection Plan.
- Get ideas from Groundwater Guardian Communities.
